The Bahá’í Faith in Finland

In an era of accelerating change, humanity’s greatest need is to find a common vision of the nature and purpose of life and the future of society. Such a vision unfolds in the writings of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith.

The Finnish Bahá’í Community applies the spiritual teachings of the Bahá’í Faith together with people of all backgrounds to improve social conditions. We seek to learn about how the idea of the unity of humanity brings about spiritual and social transformation.

It is not for him to pride himself who loveth his own country, but rather for him who loveth the whole world. The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.

Bahá’u’lláh

The Bahá’í Faith has its roots in mid-19th century Persia and today has adherents in more than 200 countries. After Christianity, the Bahá’í Faith is the most widespread religion in the world in geographical terms. It arrived in Finland in the 1930s.

Today, Bahá’ís live in over 70 localities in Finland, from Helsinki to Inari. There are already fourth-generation Finnish Bahá’ís. The Finnish Bahá’í community is organised in local communities. Most of our activities and events are initiated and run by local communities and individuals. You are warmly welcome to join the activities of the Bahá’í community in your locality!

The activities of the Bahá’í community in Finland and around the world are open to all. At the grassroots level, the idea of the unity of humanity is put into practice in neighbourhood children's classes, junior youth groups, study circles and devotional gatherings.

The Bahá’í Faith forbids proselytizing and theological debate and teaches a culture of consultation, where a common understanding is found when different points of view are expressed freely.
